Rate My Professor Sami Muhaidat

Prof. Sami Muhaidat is a Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Engineering at Khalifa University. He serves as Acting Dean of the College of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and Associate Dean for Research. He is also the Deputy Director of the 6G Research Center and Theme Leader in the Center for Cyber-Physical Systems. Prior to his current roles, he was an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University from 2008 to 2012 and an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto from 2007 to 2008. He holds an adjunct professorship at Carleton University. Prof. Muhaidat earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2006 and his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1999.

His research focuses on IoT with emphasis on battery-free devices, communication theory including physical layer security, 6G enabling technologies, and optical wireless communications, as well as machine learning applications in wireless networks and security. He has contributed to areas such as low-power IoT networks, MIMO, cooperative communications, wireless power transfer, hardware impairments, and non-orthogonal multiple access. Prof. Muhaidat has published or submitted over 350 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He has secured over USD 5 million in research funding, supervised or co-supervised over 40 graduate students, visitors, and postdocs including 16 Ph.D. students and 12 postdocs, and held editorial positions including Area Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications. He received the top Associate Editor award for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, won the 2006 NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, and served as Chair of the IEEE UAE SPC Chapter from 2017 to 2018.
