Dr. Saleena Kuzhuppil Basheer is Professor of Law and Dean of the Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research (HILSR), School of Law, at Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi. She possesses over sixteen years of experience as an author, researcher, teacher, and administrator in the field of law. Her career includes serving as Professor at the MHRD IPR Chair, Cochin University of Science and Technology from July to October 2021; Assistant Professor at the University of Jazan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from September 2013 to July 2023, where she was also Faculty Coordinator, Academic Advisor, and member of research and exam committees; Professor of Law at S N Law College, Cochin from November 2012 to September 2013; and Assistant Professor of Law at Christ University, Bangalore from June 2011 to October 2012. Earlier roles encompass Guest Faculty positions at Cochin University of Science and Technology from 2005 to 2010 and Amrita Institute of Arts and Science in 2008-2009, as well as research officer at Alwaye Techno Rubber Pvt. Limited in 2006 and part-time court practice from 2002 to 2010. She has conducted training classes for professionals on intellectual property regimes and organized seminars and conferences at various institutions.
Dr. Basheer's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Intellectual Property Laws from the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2012, with the thesis titled 'Exceptions and Limitations to Patents and Copyright in the context of TRIPs'; an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Rights and Environmental Law from the same institution in 2005; a BAL/LL.B. from Government Law College, Cochin in 2002; and qualification in UGC-NET in June 2009. Her areas of specialization are Intellectual Property Rights, Environmental Law, and Jurisprudence. She has authored two books: 'Exceptions & Limitations to IPR' published by Lambert Academic Publishing Co., Germany in 2017 (ISBN: 978-620-2-00650-7), and 'Competition Law: A Diminutive Course Book' by SAS Publishers, India in 2019 (ISBN: 978-81-93229989). Key publications include 'Challenges of Security & Privacy of Health Care Data in Cyber Space' in NIU International Journal of Human Rights (2021), 'Ensuring Innovation And Access In Covid 19 Treatment: Challenges Under Saudi Arabian Patent Law' in Journal of Law and Political Sciences (2021), 'Right To Privacy In Cyber Space - A Study With Reference To Privacy Of Patients In Health Care Information K.S.A' in International Journal for Research in Technology and Management (2019), and several others on patent exceptions, copyright limitations, and TRIPS impacts in journals such as Journal of Critical Reviews (2020) and Scholars International Journal of Law, Crime and Justice (2019). In administrative capacities at Jamia Hamdard, she is a Member of the Board of Management, Nodal Officer for Hamdard Kannur Campus, and Technical Member of the Institutional Ethics Committee. She has presented papers at national seminars on topics including trade mark jurisprudence in cyber space, copyright users' challenges, and victims' rights.
