Rate My Professor Roopika Risam

Roopika Risam serves as a professor in the Humanities at Post My Job. She earned her Ph.D. in English from Emory University, her M.A. in English with distinction from Georgetown University, and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Her academic career includes prior appointments as Associate Professor of Education and English and Chair of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education at Salem State University. Risam’s research specializations center on digital humanities, postcolonial studies, and African diaspora studies, with a focus on data histories, ethics, and practices at the intersections of these fields along with critical university studies. She has authored key publications including New Digital Worlds: Postcolonial Digital Humanities in Theory, Praxis, and Pedagogy (2018), The Digital Black Atlantic (2021), and Intersectionality in Digital Humanities (2021). Additional works encompass South Asian Digital Humanities: Mediations Across Technology's Cultural Canon (2020) and Anti-Racist Community Engagement: Principles and Practices (2023). Risam has received the Massachusetts Library Association Civil Liberties Champion Award in 2018 and the 2023 International Association for Research in Service Learning and Community Engagement Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. She holds leadership roles such as Chair of Film and Media Studies, Director of the Digital Ethnic Futures Consortium, and Editor of Reviews in Digital Humanities.

Throughout her career, Risam has contributed to editorial and committee efforts in digital humanities and social engagement, influencing scholarship on knowledge infrastructures and equitable practices in higher education. Her work continues to shape discussions in postcolonial digital humanities and related interdisciplinary areas.
