Rate My Professor Rodrigo Bissacot

Rodrigo Bissacot is an Associate Professor III at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) of the Universidade de São Paulo. He earned a bachelor's degree in Pure Mathematics in 2003 and a master's degree in Mathematics in 2005, both from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. He completed his PhD in Mathematics at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in 2009, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the same institution from January to August 2010. His academic career at USP includes service as a representative of associate professors on the University Council for the terms 2022–2024 and 2024–2026, as well as election as Vice-President of the Chamber of Teaching Activities by the Exact and Technological Sciences area for 2023–2026.

Bissacot conducts research in mathematics and mathematical physics, with primary focus on rigorous statistical mechanics in both classical and quantum settings, and thermodynamic formalism, including connections to dynamical systems, ergodic theory, and operator algebras. He maintains an active research program involving phase transitions, Gibbs measures, and related topics in mathematical physics. Bissacot also contributes to teaching and mentoring at IME-USP, including supervision of undergraduate research and participation in departmental seminars.
