Rodolfo C. C. Flesch received the B.E. degree with honors for the greatest grade point average, the M.Eng. degree, and the Dr.Eng. degree in control and automation engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in 2006, 2009, and 2012, respectively. He also received a B.Sc. degree in Business Administration from the Santa Catarina State University in 2007, again with honors for the greatest grade point average. He is currently a professor in the Department of Automation and Systems Engineering at UFSC and a researcher with the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. He serves as coordinator of multiple R&D cooperation projects between academia and industry, as well as international cooperation projects with universities in several countries, and coordinates the Human Resource Program for Automation, Control, and Instrumentation Engineers for the Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Sector (PRH 2.1). His research interests include process control for time-delay processes and model predictive control, instrumentation, and automation of measurement and tests. He is a productivity researcher scholar with CNPq and teaches in the graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Automation and Systems Engineering at UFSC.
He maintains active collaborations with industry and international academic partners in Norway, China, and Spain. Key recent publications include works on adaptive practical nonlinear model predictive control, fault-tolerant model-free predictive control for inverters, and data-driven soft sensors for sound power level estimation, appearing in journals such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, and ISA Transactions. One of his papers received the ISA Transactions Best Paper Award in 2020. Flesch contributes to the supervision of graduate students and the development of applied research projects in automation and control systems.
