About Robyn
Dr. Robyn Choi is Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Audiology in the School of Human Sciences at The University of Western Australia. She serves as Program Director for the Master of Clinical Audiology and holds honorary positions as Researcher at the Telethon Kids Institute and Research Associate at The Kids Research Institute Australia. Since July 2021, she has been Senior Audiologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science from the University of Auckland, Master of Audiology Studies and PhD from the University of Queensland, as well as professional qualifications MAudA (CCP) and FHEA. Choi's clinical expertise lies in diagnostic audiology for adults and children, specializing in central auditory processing disorder and middle ear assessment in paediatric populations.
Choi's research focuses on paediatric audiology, including detection and management of auditory processing disorder and middle ear disorders, their impact on learning and educational outcomes in children with hearing and listening difficulties. She develops novel interventions like rhythmic exercise and music for auditory processing disorder treatment, funded by Channel 7 Telethon Trust. Additional interests cover tele-audiology for rural access, simulation-based clinical education, paediatric ear health, and reflective practice in audiology. Key publications include 'Learning difficulties and auditory processing deficits in a community cohort of primary school children' (2020), 'Hearing and Auditory Processing Abilities in Primary School Children with Learning Difficulties' (Choi, Kei, Wilson), 'Recurrent otitis media and behaviour problems in middle childhood: A longitudinal cohort study' (2023), 'The Impact of Waiting Times on Behavioral Outcomes for Children with Otitis Media' (2023), and 'A hospital-based asynchronous ENT telehealth service for paediatric ENT patients' (2025). With 91 citations and h-index of 5, her contributions advance evidence-based practice. Awards include School of Human Sciences Early-Career Research Award (2022), Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (UWA, 2021), Australian Research Training Program Scholarship (2015), QIMR Honours and Coursework Masters Scholarship (2013), and Ko Awatea Scholarship (2009).
