Rate My Professor Regina Moreira

Regina de Fátima Peralta Muniz Moreira is a full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Food Engineering at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1982), a master’s degree in chemistry from UFSC (1987), and a PhD in chemistry from UFSC (1994). She has been a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering at UFSC and maintains an affiliation with the Graduate Program in Chemistry. Her research focuses on advanced oxidation processes, including photocatalysis, Fenton and photo-Fenton reactions, ozonation, and H2O2/UV processes, as well as the development of nanosorbents and nanocatalysts for environmental protection, CO2 separation and sequestration, thermochemical conversion of biomass for energy production, and evaluation of atmospheric emissions from biomass combustion. She leads the Laboratory of Energy and Environment at UFSC and has been a CNPq productivity fellow since 2001. Moreira has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including studies on the photocatalytic degradation of dyes, treatment of textile and tannery wastewaters, removal of pharmaceuticals, and geopolymers for CO2 capture. She has received recognition such as the Women in Science Award and contributes to national research networks including INCT CAPICUA. Her work emphasizes practical applications in water treatment, environmental remediation, and sustainable energy processes.
