Rebecca Connaughton serves as the Specialist for Academic Committees and Services, embedded within the Division of Commerce at the University of Otago Business School. She supports academic staff through the academic approvals process by advising and assisting in the preparation of academic proposals. Her duties include servicing the Commerce Divisional Board and Proposals Committee, as well as University-wide committees such as the Committee for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CALT), for which she acts as secretary, and the Policy Management Group. Connaughton also assists with annual programme reporting, the Good and Your Responsibility (GYR) process, external moderation, and course variations for undergraduate students. These responsibilities ensure effective academic governance and programme quality within the division.
Having joined the University of Otago in 2007, Rebecca Connaughton has held various student advisory roles, drawing on her background in student support, an area in which she remains passionate. In 2022, she was appointed Deputy Coordinator of the Sexual Misconduct Action Response Team (SMART), contributing to the oversight of institutional responses to sexual harm. Additionally, she holds the position of Training and Development Coordinator at Te Whare Tāwharau Sexual Violence Support and Prevention Centre, furthering her commitment to student welfare and safety. Through her multifaceted roles, Connaughton plays a vital part in both academic administration and supportive services at the University of Otago.
