Dr. Pratiti Chatterjee is a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in Economics at the UWA Business School, University of Western Australia. Her academic journey began with a BA in Economics from Jadavpur University, India, in 2009, followed by an MA in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, in 2011. She then pursued advanced studies at the University of California, Irvine, earning an MA in Economics in 2014 and a PhD in Economics in September 2018, with a dissertation titled "Uncertainty Shocks and Business Cycle Fluctuations." After completing her doctorate, she served as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the School of Economics at the University of New South Wales Business School starting in September 2018, before transitioning to her current role at UWA. Prior to academia, she worked as a Senior Analyst at Citi Global Decision Management in India from June 2011 to July 2013.
Pratiti Chatterjee's research interests encompass Macroeconomics, International Economics, and Econometrics, with a particular emphasis on interaction effects in the macroeconomy driven by financial frictions, stochastic volatility, and deviations from rational expectations models. Her recent investigations explore the sentiment channel of monetary policy transmission and business cycle asymmetries across countries. Key research expertise includes Monetary Economics, Financial Markets, Financial Frictions, and Macro-Finance. Notable publications include "The Interaction Between Credit Constraints and Uncertainty Shocks" (Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, 2025, co-authored with D. Gunawan and R. Kohn), "Uncertainty Shocks, Financial Frictions and Business Cycle Asymmetries Across Countries" (European Economic Review, 2024), "The Block-Correlated Pseudo Marginal Sampler for State Space Models" (Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, 2024, co-authored with D. Gunawan and R. Kohn), "Perceived Uncertainty Shocks, Excess Optimism-Pessimism, and Learning in the Business Cycle" (Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, 2020, co-authored with F. Milani), and "Asymmetric Impact of Uncertainty in Recessions: Are Emerging Countries More Vulnerable?" (Studies in Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics, 2019). These contributions have advanced understandings of uncertainty shocks, financial constraints, and policy impacts in open economies. She currently teaches courses such as ECON1102 and ECON3303 at UWA.
