About Pratibha

Dr. Pratibha Gupta serves as Research Associate Professor of Food, Nutrition, and Health and Extension State Specialist in Family and Consumer Science at Central State University in the John W. Garland College of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture. She earned bachelor’s degrees in botany, zoology, and chemistry, master’s degrees in biochemistry and food biochemistry, and a Ph.D. in cancer immunology and biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University. Following her doctorate, she conducted postdoctoral research at Case Western Reserve University in hematology-oncology, ophthalmology, and psychiatry, and worked as a project scientist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base focusing on biomarker toxicology. With nearly 16 years at Central State University, she is a dedicated member of the 1890 Land-Grant Programs, Core Director of the Human Health Assessment and Nutrigenomics Lab, and principal investigator on research initiatives bridging scientific knowledge with community health.

Dr. Gupta’s research centers on nutritional biochemistry and nutrigenomics, investigating the interplay between diet, gene expression, physical activity, and medicinal properties of herbs and spices to advance precision nutrition for preventing obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. She secured a $600,000 USDA-NIFA Capacity Building Grant in 2022 for the Nutrition Education and Outreach Program to Address and Prevent Obesity in Minority Communities through Nutrigenomics, collaborating with Kentucky State University, Lincoln University, and the University of Toledo. Her contributions include mentoring students in hands-on lab research, partnering with local organizations for workshops on mindful eating, meal preparation, stress management, and food as medicine. She received the 2024 President’s Award for Faculty Excellence in Research, serves on the Board of Directors of the Food Distribution Research Society, and is an editorial member for the Journal of Current Trends in Nutrition and the National Consortium for Building Healthy Academic Communities.
