Pauline Donovan serves as the Warden Tautiaki of University College at the University of Otago, having assumed the role permanently in 2022 after an initial secondment. She is the first female Warden Tautiaki in the college's history. In this capacity, she holds overall responsibility for the running of the College and serves as the liaison between the College and the University. She resides in the Warden's Residence and is typically present on evenings and weekends besides daytime hours. Her association with University College began in 1985 as a Bachelor of Commerce student resident.
Donovan graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago between 1985 and 1988, with a focus on Economics and Management. During her studies, she served as Sub-Warden Kaiāwhina Whare at University College from 1987 to 1988 and as a Stage One Management Tutor in 1988. She earned a Diploma of Teaching - Secondary and began her secondary school teaching career in 1990 at Queen’s High School in Dunedin, later moving to Otahuhu College in Auckland and advancing to Head of Department for Accounting and Economics at Pakuranga College. At Pakuranga, she completed an Executive MBA through the Otago Business School's Auckland programme. Subsequently, she was Deputy Principal at Rotorua Girls’ High School, held a 2005 contract with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority in Wellington, and returned to the University of Otago in April 2006 as Head of Hall at Hayward College for 16 years. Donovan's career reflects dedication to pastoral care and educational leadership.
