Rate My Professor Paul Vrbik

Dr Paul Vrbik serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Queensland. He earned a Bachelor (Honours) of Mathematics from McMaster University, a Masters (Research) of Mathematics and Computer Science from Simon Fraser University, and a Doctor of Philosophy of Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario. Vrbik’s academic interests centre on computer algebra and pedagogy within computer science. He co-authored the book Informal Introduction to Stochastic Processes with Maple, published in 2013, and has contributed to numerous conference publications and journal articles on algebraic algorithms, including work involving the RegularChains library, the PSLQ algorithm, and topics in hyperbolic geometry and paperfolding numbers. Recent publications address aspects of computing education, such as student perceptions of academic dishonesty, the impostor phenomenon among computing graduate students, and comparisons of testing methods in engineering and computing. Vrbik teaches Introduction to Software Engineering and Functional and Logic Programming in the Bachelor of Computer Science program at the University of Queensland. In 2025 he received a UQ Award for Teaching Excellence in recognition of his educational contributions.
