Paul McNicholas is a Lecturer at Adelaide University, affiliated with UniSA College in the AU Pathways and Participation organizational unit. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Business, and has recently completed a Master of Secondary Teaching in Science (Physics) and Mathematics. Prior to his academic appointments, Paul acquired extensive professional experience across a wide range of industries in both Australia and overseas. This diverse background, combined with his longstanding ambition to teach, positions him to deliver instruction that connects theoretical concepts to practical, real-world applications in mathematics and related fields.
In his teaching roles, Paul serves as course coordinator for MATH 1082 Learning Mathematics at University and EDUC 1116 Literacy and Numeracy for Teachers, both offered in 2024 and 2025. He is also an online tutor for MATH 1078 UO Mathematical Methods for Engineers 1 with UniSA Online during the same years and teaches MATH 1086 UO Numeracy and Problem Solving in 2025. His responsibilities include coordinating and leading multiple tutorials, such as TU01 through TU10 at Adelaide City Campus West and TU01 at Whyalla. Paul focuses on demystifying mathematics for students who have struggled previously, emphasizing its practical applications drawn from his engineering and business expertise. Through these efforts in foundational and pathways programs, he builds essential numeracy skills, preparing students for success in higher education and professional pursuits in STEM and beyond.
