Being supervised by Patrick during my master’s and the first year of my PhD program, I found that Patrick is a patient, kind, and supportive supervisor. He always encourages me to explore new ideas and questions. When you have problems, he is always approachable. His guidance on writing is especially helpful for building a strong foundation and habits of academic writing that students will benefit from in the long run. Although he is focusing on African studies, he is highly able to giving valuable advice and guidance on urban and peri-urban studies internationally. I feel that I am lucky enough to have him as my supervisor.
