Dr. Paran Gani Anak Gani is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Curtin University Malaysia, Miri campus. He serves as the Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering. His academic background includes a PhD in Civil Engineering (2017), Master of Engineering (Civil) (2014), and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering (2012), all from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. He holds professional certifications including P.Tech., Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), and Graduate Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Grad I.E.M.). Dr. Gani is a registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and a certified Professional Technologist by the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT).
Dr. Gani's research specializations include environmental engineering, civil engineering with a focus on sustainable materials, phycoremediation and wastewater treatment, green technology and renewable energy, biomass, and microalgae. His work centers on applying microalgae for wastewater treatment and biomass production, phytoremediation of contaminated soils, and transforming waste materials into value-added products. He has authored over 20 papers indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. Key publications are 'Environmental bioremediation of pharmaceutical residues: microbial processes and technological innovations: a review' (2025, Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering), 'Preliminary characterisation of physicochemical and heavy metals contents of algal blooms lake water' (2024, AIP Conference Proceedings), 'Characterisation of bio-oil extracted from microalgae Botryococcus sp. biomass grown in domestic and food processing wastewaters for valuable hydrocarbon production' (2023, Biofuels), 'Outdoor phycoremediation and biomass harvesting optimisation of microalgae Botryococcus sp. cultivated in food processing wastewater using an enclosed photobioreactor' (2022, International Journal of Phytoremediation), and 'Cultivation System and Harvesting Techniques In Microalgae Biomass Production' (2020, Quantum Journal of Engineering, Science and Technology). Dr. Gani supervises PhD, MSc, MPhil, and undergraduate students, acts as Chief Editor of the Quantum Journal of Engineering, Science and Technology, and presented at the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Engineering Conference (BIWWEC) 2024 on phycoremediation solutions. His contributions advance sustainable environmental remediation.
