Dr. P. Malliga is Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai, where she also heads the Department of Educational Media and Technology. Possessing over 30 years of teaching, training, and research experience, she obtained her B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Madras in 1989, M.S. in Software Systems from BITS Pilani in 1991, M.S. by Research from Anna University, Chennai in 2003, and Ph.D. from the University of Madras in 2010. Her professional journey started as Lecturer at Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research from 1989 to 1996, before joining NITTTR Chennai in 1996 as Lecturer, progressing through Senior Scale Lecturer until 2006, Associate Professor from 2006 to 2012, and Professor since 2012.
Dr. Malliga's research specializations include Data and Text Mining, Media Processing and Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Immersive Technologies, Educational Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality (AR and VR), E-Learning, Databases, Data Mining, Cloud Computing, Instructional Design, and Open Educational Resources. She has published 13 journal articles and 9 conference proceedings, with notable works such as 'Enhancing Learning Experience Through Augmented Reality' (2019), 'A Survey on MOOC Providers for Higher Education' (2013), and 'Database Services for Cloud Computing – An Overview' (2012). Her accolades encompass the Best Paper Award at VIT Chennai in 2025 in collaboration with University Putra Malaysia, AICTE Best Paper Award in 2019, and a Merit Certificate from the National Scholarship Scheme in 1982. Dr. Malliga has coordinated more than 250 short-term programs, acted as resource person for over 350 courses, developed SWAYAM MOOCs including 'E-content Development' and 'OER for Empowering Teachers,' led international training for Bangladesh educators, and contributed to projects like the Resource Centre for Indian Language Technology solutions for Tamil (2000-2002) and Multimedia Development on Computer Communication (2001-2003). She guides projects, serves as university examiner, chairs NITTTR's Internal Complaints Committee, and delivers seminars and valedictory addresses on emerging technologies.
