About Oz

Dr. Oz Sahin is a Senior Lecturer at the Capability Systems Centre, School of Systems and Computing, UNSW Canberra, University of New South Wales. He earned his PhD from Griffith University in 2011, with a thesis titled 'Dynamic assessment of coastal vulnerability and adaptation to sea-level rise along the Gold Coast, Australia.' Previously, he held the position of Senior Research Fellow at Griffith University's School of Engineering and Built Environment and Griffith Climate Change Response Program. During his time at Griffith, he received the Pro Vice-Chancellor's Griffith Sciences Excellence Award in 2012, along with other awards recognizing research excellence, such as contributions to Griffith Sciences research teams.

Dr. Sahin's expertise lies in advanced modelling approaches for natural resource management, engineering management, public health, climate change adaptation, and risk assessment. His research interests encompass sustainable built environments, ecosystem-based approaches, integrated water, energy, and climate modelling, and decision support systems utilizing coupled System Dynamics and GIS modelling, Bayesian Network modelling, multiple criteria decision analysis, and operational research methods. He has authored or co-authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications, research papers, and consultancy reports. Notable publications include 'Spatial bayesian approach for socio-economic assessment of pumped hydro storage' in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews (2024), 'Assessment of Climate Change-Induced Water Scarcity Risk by Using a Coupled System Dynamics and Bayesian Network Modeling Approaches' in Water Resources Management (2024), 'Integrated GIS-AHP-based approach for off-river pumped hydro energy storage site selection' in Applied Energy (2023), 'Catching nano: Evaluating the fate and behaviour of nano-TiO2 in swimming pools through dynamic simulation modelling' in Journal of Environmental Management (2023), and 'Visioning a framework for effective environmental management of deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining: Drivers, barriers, and enablers' in Journal of Cleaner Production (2022). Dr. Sahin facilitates short courses at UNSW Canberra, including Systems Thinking for a Complex World, Risk Assessment and Decision Analysis using Bayesian Networks, and Addressing Complex Problems. His research has practical impact in industries and academia, advancing innovation in modelling and natural resource management.
