Olutope Akinnibosun is a researcher at Federation University’s Health Innovation and Transformation Centre. She completed her PhD at the university, with her thesis under examination as of mid-2024. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry and conducted neuroendocrinology research. Her research applies genomics to cardiovascular and kidney diseases, with a focus on telomeres in blood and kidney tissues and their links to hypertension and chronic kidney disease. She investigates predictive markers for early detection and potential therapeutic targets, while addressing health disparities in underrepresented populations.
Akinnibosun received an International Society of Hypertension Collaboration Exchange Scholarship, enabling collaboration at North-West University in South Africa on childhood hypertension and genomics research. Key publications include the 2022 review “Telomere therapy for chronic kidney disease” and a 2026 paper on shorter kidney telomeres associated with nephrosclerosis. She collaborates with Professor Fadi Charchar and contributes to efforts advancing genomic equity in hypertension research.
