About Niels

Niels Skovmand Rasmussen is an Associate Professor in financial law at the Department of Law, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, where he also serves as PhD Coordinator in the Private Law section. Holding an LL.M., he completed his PhD in law at the University of Southern Denmark in 2014, focusing on the interaction between formal and informal sources of law, particularly the gray area between rulemaking and supervision. His career at the university includes serving as a postdoctoral researcher from 2016 to 2018 on the project 'The European Banking Union through a Constitutional Prism,' Assistant Professor in financial law from 2015 to 2016, and PhD student from 2011 to 2014. Rasmussen teaches courses such as Banking and Financial Markets Law, Company Law, and interdisciplinary business projects.

Rasmussen's research specializations include regulatory reforms following the global financial crisis, the Sustainable Finance agenda initiated in 2017, novel legal challenges in the European Union concerning institutional and substantive aspects, company law, and financial law. He adopts a contextual methodology that integrates insights from disciplines beyond law. His publications encompass 29 research outputs, including 'Greenwashing through the lens of agency theory: A critical perspective on the Disclosure Regulation in Scandinavia' (2026, Nordisk Tidsskrift for Selskabsret), 'Consistency in the EU Single Rulebook: How to Address the Proliferation of Remuneration Rules Across Legal Fields?' (2025, Scandinavian Studies in Law), 'Lov om finansiel virksomhed' (2025, 6th ed., Karnov Group), and 'Erstatningsrettens muligheder og begrænsninger i lyset af retsopgøret efter den finansielle krise i Danmark' (2024, Nordisk Tidsskrift for Selskabsret). He has received a Post Doc grant of 1,756,800 DKK from The Danish Council for Independent Research (2016), a research grant of 25,000 DKK (2015), and a travel grant of 15,000 DKK (2013). Rasmussen serves on the Editorial Board of the journal Finans/Invest since 2019, authors law comments for Karnov Group on the Financial Business Act and Insurance Business Act since 2023, is a member of the Nordic Company Law Network since 2024, and has supervised PhD theses. He has conducted research stays at Ludwig Maximilians Universität Munich (2018), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (2017), London School of Economics (2016), and Queen Mary University of London (2013-2014).
