Nicky McHugh serves as Laboratory Services Supervisor, Chemistry Technician, and Departmental Laboratory Manager in the Department of Zoology at the University of Otago. Her responsibilities include overseeing laboratory operations, providing chemistry technical support, and managing departmental laboratory resources to facilitate research and teaching activities in zoology.
In 2022, Nicky McHugh received the Outstanding Early-Career Researcher award as part of the Sciences Divisional Awards at the University of Otago. She is a co-author on the publication 'Storage by lyophilization - Resulting RNA quality is tissue dependent,' published in 2016 in Analytical Biochemistry alongside Erin L. Damsteegt and P. Mark Lokman. Her technical contributions are acknowledged in numerous doctoral theses and research papers from the Department of Zoology, supporting studies in diverse areas including microplastic pollution, avian malaria dynamics, stream ecosystems, and invertebrate ecology.
