Dr Nick Takos serves as a Lecturer in the School of Management, College of Business and Law at Adelaide University. He earned a Bachelor of Economics (BEc), an MBA in sport management, a Diploma in Marketing, and a PhD in leadership and organisational culture from the University of South Australia in 2019, with his thesis exploring the role of authentic leadership in AFL club board governance. Takos specializes in leadership, organisational culture, management, and commercial operations within the sport and recreation sectors. His research has been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Sport Management, Sport in Society, and Sport, Business and Management. Notable publications include "Authentic leadership in nonprofit sport organization boards" (2018), "Modernising sport governance amid cultural constraints: a case study from Ireland" (2022, with D. Hassan and I. O'Boyle), "The role of leadership in interpersonal dysfunctional conflict within Australian Football League (AFL) club boards" (2025, with I. O'Boyle and D. Murray), as well as chapters in Leadership in Sport (2015) and the book Leadership in Sport Governance (2024).
Takos possesses over 14 years of senior industry experience in sport management, including roles with the Adelaide Crows AFL team where he was commercial manager during their back-to-back Premierships, senior positions with the Adelaide Thunderbirds netball team, and cricket organizations such as the Adelaide Strikers (which he helped create alongside the Big Bash League in 2011/12), South Australian Redbacks, and Scorpions. In 2021, he served as a board member of the Adelaide Football Club and chaired its inaugural Member Engagement Committee. In 2024, Takos initiated the Adelaide University/Adelaide Crows Sport Management Diploma and was part of the joint committee designing its structure and business model. Consistently rated as a high-performing teacher, he is committed to enhancing research output in the business school and is eligible to co-supervise Master's and PhD students.
