Nick Street is the Leonard A. Hadley Chair in Leadership, Associate Dean for Research and PhD Programs, and Professor of Business Analytics in the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa within the Business & Economics faculty. He holds secondary appointments in the Department of Computer Science, College of Nursing, and Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Informatics. A first-generation college student from Cambria, Iowa, Street received his Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994, M.S. in Computer Science from DePaul University in 1990 with distinction, and B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Drake University in 1985 with honors as the Outstanding Computer Science Student. His early career included serving as Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at Oklahoma State University from 1996 to 1998 and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Departments of Surgery and Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1994 to 1996. Since joining the University of Iowa in 1998 as Assistant Professor in the Management Sciences Department (now Business Analytics), he advanced to Associate Professor in 2002 and Professor in 2010.
Street specializes in business analytics, data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence applications in healthcare, including cancer care, symptom management, clinical decision support, and adverse drug effect detection. He has published more than 110 peer-reviewed articles with over 11,000 Google Scholar citations and obtained more than $4 million in external funding. Key publications include "Gaussian process regression and classification using international disease classification codes as covariates" (Stat, 2023), "Optimizing warfarin dosing using deep reinforcement learning" (Journal of Biomedical Informatics, 2023), "DILSA+: Predicting urban dispersal events through deep survival analysis with enhanced urban features" (ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology, 2021), "Predicting user posting activities in online health communities with deep learning" (ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, 2020), and "Modeling and maximizing influence diffusion in social networks for viral marketing" (Applied Network Science, 2018). Among his honors are the Iowa Board of Regents Award for Faculty Excellence (2026), INFORMS Data Mining Prize for lifetime achievement (2022), Tippie Children Professor of Business Analytics (2022-2025), Henry B. Tippie Research Professor (2014-2022), and Tippie MSBA Core Instructor of the Year (2022-23). Street has advised 20 doctoral students, served on over 70 graduate committees, and led the development of Tippie's nationally recognized business analytics programs, which received the 2021 INFORMS UPS George D. Smith Prize.
