Naomi Davey serves as the Library Communications Manager in the Communications & Engagement team at The Manchester Metropolitan University Library and Cultural Services, based in the John Dalton Building, Chester Street, Manchester. She joined the team in September 2024 after working in marketing roles within the charity sector. In her position, she contributes to the strategic communication efforts supporting the university's academic engagement, teaching services, open research, and public engagement initiatives.
Marking her entry into the academic library sector, Naomi Davey attended the UKSG Annual Conference in Brighton from 31 March to 2 April 2025. As a non-librarian newcomer, she participated in plenaries, lightning sessions, poster sessions, breakout sessions, and social events including networking suppers, quizzes, and the gala dinner. She networked with delegates from Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Sweden. Sessions addressed key areas such as library staff engagement via job shadowing, open research environments, cyber security in academic libraries, library leadership, neurodivergent inclusion, AI tools for research, student partnerships, and open access publishing. Davey plans to apply these insights to her role by promoting open research, enhancing staff wellbeing against cyber threats, and developing inclusive online spaces to bolster the library's support for Manchester Metropolitan University's scholarly community.
