Naglaa Gamil Shehab is a Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls, United Arab Emirates. She concurrently holds the position of Professor in the Pharmacognosy Department at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt. She earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy in 1991, Master of Science in Pharmacognosy in 1999, and Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacognosy in 2004, all from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University. Dr. Shehab was promoted to Professor at Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls in 2015 and at Cairo University in 2018. With over 30 years of teaching experience, she has occupied key leadership roles at Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls, including Chief Academic Officer, Head of the Admission Committee, Head of Student Affairs, Head of Curriculum Development, Head of Faculty Development, and Head of the Research Unit. Her administrative experience encompasses community, industrial, and hospital training collaborations.
Dr. Shehab's research specializations include extraction, isolation, characterization, and phytochemical investigation of medicinal plants; evaluation of biological activities of natural products; and food or herb-drug interactions. She pioneered the course 'Natural Medicines, Safety, and Efficacy' at Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls, the first of its kind in the Arab region, focusing on drug-herb interactions and supplement quality control. A member of the American Society of Pharmacognosy with certifications in nutrition and health, she serves as a reviewer for international journals in natural products and has published over 40 scientific papers in impact factor journals. Key publications encompass 'Phytochemical Evaluation of Lepidium meyenii, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Spirulina platensis, and Tribulus arabica, and Their Potential Effect on Monosodium Glutamate Induced Male Reproductive Dysfunction in Adult Wistar Rats' (Antioxidants, 2024), 'The wound healing and hypoglycemic activities of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) leaf extract and saponins in diabetic and normal rats' (PLOS ONE, 2024), 'Pomegranate extract-loaded sphingosomes for the treatment of cancer: Phytochemical investigations, formulation, and antitumor activity evaluation' (PLOS ONE, 2024), 'Impact of phenolic composition on hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of four desert medicinal plants' (BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2015), and 'Therapeutic potentials of Crataegus azarolus var. eu-azaro lus Maire leaves and its isolated compounds' (BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2017). She has received prestigious research awards from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Amsterdam in natural products and is recognized among the top two thousand scientists in the UAE. Dr. Shehab regularly participates in workshops, seminars, webinars, and conferences.
