Dr. Nadine Pelling is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology within the College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. She earned her BA (Honours) in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario in 1990, MA in 1995, and PhD in Counselling Psychology in 2000 from Western Michigan University, complemented by postgraduate certificates from the same institutions in areas including addiction treatment and leadership. Prior to her current appointment, Pelling served as a full-time Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology and Counselling at the University of South Australia since 2003. She also owns Quality Psychological and Counselling Consulting, operating as Principal Clinical Psychologist with a limited private practice in Adelaide's southern suburbs since 2005.
Pelling's research specializations include applied ethics, clinical psychology, counselling psychology, professional education and training, and professional psychological applications such as private practice elements and supervision. Her teaching strengths lie in applied psychology and counselling applications. She has garnered several awards for teaching excellence: UniSA Mid-Career Teaching Award and High Student Evaluation Award in 2015, Outstanding Alumni Academy from Western Michigan University in 2010, Australian Psychological Society and Pearson Education Early Career Teaching Awards in 2005, and UniSA Scholarly Teaching Award in 2004. Key publications encompass editing books such as The Practice of Clinical and Counselling Supervision: Australian and International Applications (Routledge, 2024, 3rd ed.), The Elements of Ethical Practice: Applied Psychology Ethics in Australia (Routledge, 2019), Abnormal Psychology in Context: The Australian and New Zealand Handbook (Cambridge University Press, 2017), and The Elements of Applied Psychological Practice in Australia: Preparing for the National Psychology Examination (Routledge, 2017). Selected journal articles include Gan, P. J., Pelling, N., & Lushington, K. (2025). A registered Clinical Psychologist and Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society's College of Clinical Psychologists, Pelling is an approved supervisor eligible to co-supervise Masters and PhD students.
