Professor Mohamed Hasnain Isa serves as Professor and Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Brunei. He earned his PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, MSc in Engineering (Environmental & Water Resources) from Aligarh Muslim University, India, and BSc in Engineering (Civil) from Aligarh Muslim University. His research specializations include water and wastewater treatment, sludge treatment, and waste management. Isa teaches modules such as Wastewater Engineering, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, Sludge Management and Disposal, Environmental Hazards and Disaster Management, and Sewerage Engineering. He has supervised one postdoc, 18 PhD students, 19 MSc students, and 66 BSc students.
Isa's career encompasses roles as Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia; Lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia; Consultant and Senior Consultant at Allied Environmental Consultants Ltd., Hong Kong; and Lecturer at Aligarh Muslim University, India. He has edited books including The Advances in Civil Engineering Materials: Selected Papers of the ICACE 2018 (Springer, 2019) and Structural, Environmental, Coastal and Offshore Engineering (Trans Tech Publications, 2014). Notable book chapters cover topics like electrochemical oxidation of PAHs and application of sequencing batch reactors for refinery wastewater treatment. Isa holds patents such as Apparatus and Process for Low Temperature Thermal Degradation of Hazardous Organics (Malaysia, MY-155963-A) and has led funded projects on transformation of carcinogenic micro-pollutants from landfills, degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in produced water, and boron removal from produced water. With 306 publications documented and extensive citation impact, his work advances sustainable environmental technologies. As Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research), he drives research innovation at Universiti Teknologi Brunei.
