Dr. Mohamed Haroun is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Khalifa University. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with a Petroleum Engineering concentration from the University of Southern California (2009), along with an Engineer Degree in Petroleum Engineering (2007), an M.S. in Environmental Engineering (2001), an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering (2000), and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (1998), all from the same institution. With over 20 years of experience in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and improved oil recovery (IOR) research and development, his work integrates petroleum engineering and environmental engineering, incorporating energy policy considerations to develop sustainable solutions.
Dr. Haroun has authored more than 90 publications, including journal papers, conference proceedings, one book, and a chapter in the OPEC World Oil Outlook (2013). He holds four awarded patents in oil and gas technologies and has six pending patents related to hybrid EOR and IOR methods. His research interests include smart waterflooding, electrokinetic enhanced oil recovery, hybrid nanoparticle-acid fluids, CO2 miscible gas flooding, machine learning applications for subsurface assets, and petroleum economics and risk analysis. He has supervised numerous graduate students in petroleum and environmental engineering programs. Dr. Haroun teaches courses such as Hybrid Enhanced Oil Recovery, Petroleum Economics and Risk Analysis, and Reservoir Rock Properties.
