Dr Michael Borck is a Lecturer at Curtin University in the School of Management and Marketing, part of the Faculty of Business and Law. Dr Borck is a recognised authority in information systems and artificial intelligence, with a career spanning over two decades in machine learning, software engineering, and AI-driven innovation. He has held diverse roles, including Software Developer, IT Manager, Consultant, Associate Lecturer, and Researcher, equipping him with a comprehensive understanding of both technical and strategic aspects of AI applications in business. A Certified Professional of the Australian Computer Society and an active member of the IEEE Computer Society, Dr Borck has contributed extensively to image engineering, mobile mapping data, and object recognition through his research and publications.
Dr Borck completed his PhD at Curtin University from 2011 to 2016, with the thesis 'Feature Extraction from Multi-Modal Mapping Data', supervised by Prof Geoff West and Assoc Prof Seng Tan in the Department of Spatial Sciences. During his PhD, he led projects on feature extraction from multi-modal mapping data in the photogrammetry and laser scanning research group. His key publications include conference papers such as 'Use of Multiple Low Level Features to Find Interesting Regions' (2012), 'An Image Engineering Approach to Analysing Mobile Mapping Data' (2014), and 'Using Depth Maps to Find Interesting Regions' (2014 IEEE Region 10 Symposium).
In his current academic role, Dr Borck teaches and coordinates units in Business Information Systems, including ISYS2001 Introduction to Business Programming, ISYS3015 Business Application Development, and ISYS3004 Business Web and Mobile Technologies. He facilitates professional development short courses such as 'AI in Leadership and Project Management', 'AI to Drive Business Innovation', and 'AI for Professionals: Building Everyday Capability' offered through Curtin University.
