Dr. Melinda Cline is a professor affiliated with Business & Economics at Florida Gulf Coast University. She holds a Ph.D. in management and information science from Florida State University, earned in 1999, and a Bachelor’s degree in management from the University of West Florida. Dr. Cline has over 15 years of experience teaching at the university level. Prior to her academic career, she accumulated 15 years of professional experience in the freight railroad industry, where she served in leadership and project management roles. In these positions, she designed and implemented information systems for prominent organizations, including CSX Transportation, New Zealand Railways, Queensland Railways, and the Southern Pacific Transportation Company.
Dr. Cline's research specializations encompass the value of information systems investments, project management, knowledge sharing in ERP implementations, information security from an organizational change perspective, and pedagogical approaches in business intelligence education. Her work has been published in respected peer-reviewed journals such as Decision Support Systems, Journal of Computer Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Journal of Information Systems Education, and Managerial Auditing Journal. Notable publications include 'Exploring knowledge sharing in ERP implementation: an organizational culture framework' (2006), 'A study of the impact of information technology investment on firm performance' (2001), 'The Impact of Information Technology Investment on Enterprise Performance: A Case Study' (2001), 'Using active learning, group formation, and discussion to increase student learning: A business intelligence skills analysis' (2020), and 'Information security: An organizational change perspective' (2004). Additionally, her 1999 dissertation from Florida State University addressed 'IT Investment Is Strategic to a Firm's Competitive Advantage.' Dr. Cline's contributions continue to influence discussions on the strategic role of information technology in enhancing business and economic performance.
