Maureen Gittelman is an Assistant Professor of Business Management at Dutchess Community College within the Business & Economics faculty, where she holds the position of Program Chair for Hospitality & Tourism Management in the Department of Business, Aviation & Construction Professions. She earned a B.B.A. in Management from Hofstra University and an M.B.A. with a concentration in marketing from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Before transitioning to higher education, Gittelman served in executive roles in the non-profit field. She joined Dutchess Community College as an adjunct instructor in Fall 2015 and advanced to a full-time faculty position in Fall 2017. In her teaching role, she delivers courses in marketing, management, and hospitality, employing diverse modalities including blended formats, fully asynchronous online classes, and remote synchronous sessions. Gittelman oversees the curriculum and administration of the Hospitality & Tourism Management A.A.S. degree program, which she helped launch in Fall 2021, emphasizing hands-on learning and career-relevant skills for the hospitality and tourism industry.
Gittelman has made significant contributions to program innovation at the college, collaborating with Biology Professor Mark Condon and the Hudson Valley Education + Workforce Consortium, along with local industry professionals, to develop and instruct the Cannabis Retail Management microcredential program, with the first cohort recognized in 2023. She authored the open educational resource textbook "Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism" in 2024. Her dedication to online teaching excellence was recognized with selection as a SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador in 2021. In professional organizations, Gittelman received the International CHRIE Emerging Leader Award in 2023 and currently serves as President of the Northeast North America (NENA) Federation of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) for 2025-2026, following roles as Secretary (2023-2025) and involvement in bylaws modernization. On campus, she co-chairs the Presidential Advisory Council, fostering leadership and community engagement. Through her work, Gittelman impacts students by preparing them for dynamic careers in hospitality, tourism, and emerging sectors like cannabis retail management.
