Great Professor!
Massimiliano Guazzato is an Associate Professor of Oral Rehabilitation in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney. He holds a Bachelor in Dental Surgery with First Class Honours from the University of Milan, awarded in 1989, a PhD in Dentistry from the University of Sydney in 2003 with a thesis on the mechanical properties, microstructure, and influence of surface and heat treatments on all-ceramic materials for fixed prosthodontics, and a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics from the University of Sydney in 2010, focusing on thermal compatibility of veneering porcelains with zirconia frameworks. Guazzato is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons since 2006 and a Member in Prosthodontics since 2010. His academic career at the University of Sydney began in 2001 as Associate Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry, progressed to Associate Lecturer and then Lecturer in Fixed Prosthodontics from 2002 to 2010 on part-time basis, and he has served as Associate Professor since 2010. He also held an honorary researcher position at the Key Centre for Microscopy and Nanoanalysis from 2003 to 2006.
Guazzato's research interests center on dental materials science, including implant dentistry, esthetic dentistry, mechanical properties, and microstructure of advanced ceramics such as zirconia and glass-infiltrated alumina. Notable publications include 'Influence of Surface and Heat Treatments on the Flexural Strength of Y-TZP Dental Ceramic' (Journal of Dentistry, 2005), 'Strength, Fracture Toughness and Microstructure of a Selection of All-Ceramic Materials. Part II: Zirconia-Based Dental Ceramics' (Dental Materials, 2004), 'Influence of Grinding, Sandblasting, Polishing and Heat Treatment on the Flexural Strength of a Glass-Infiltrated Alumina-Reinforced Dental Ceramic' (Biomaterials, 2004), and 'Effect of Sandblasting, Grinding, Polishing and Glazing on the Flexural Strength of Two Pressable All-Ceramic Dental Materials' (Journal of Dentistry, 2004). He has garnered over 4,200 citations for his 36 publications. Awards include the Joan Chong Award for Dental Materials (2002), Dentsply Award for best DClinDent presentation (2009), and multiple research grants from the Australian Dental Research Foundation and others. Guazzato lectures in fixed prosthodontics and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research at the University of Sydney.
