Maryann Huey is Professor of Mathematics and Department Chair in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Drake University. She received her PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Missouri, a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas, and a master's degree in business administration from The Ohio State University. Dr. Huey teaches a variety of mathematics methods and content courses and collaborates with Drake students on research projects such as those under the DUSCI Summer Research Fellowships. She has served as co-chair for courses like CS 325 and participates in programs including the Noyce Scholarship initiative.
Dr. Huey's research focuses on statistics education, teachers' use of curricular resources, equity, and mathematical reasoning. She was awarded a Mathematics and Science Partnership grant for the project Statistics and Probability for Teaching Secondary Students, which provided professional development to over 100 secondary teachers in Iowa aligned with Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Dr. Huey works with mathematics educators and middle school teachers to address achievement gaps in algebra for African American students and English Language Learners in the Des Moines area. Her publications include Engaging Students in a Visual and Conceptual Approach to Taylor Series using a Dynamic Graphing Utility (2023), Assessing the impact of standards-based grading policy changes on student performance and practice work completion in secondary mathematics (2022), Secondary mathematics teachers' planned approaches for teaching standard deviation (2018), Investigating Secondary Preservice Teacher Noticing of Students’ Mathematical Thinking (2017), and Statistics as unbiased estimators: exploring the teaching of standard deviation (2017). She contributes to the Iowa Mathematics Standards Revision and Review Teams and delivers presentations on topics such as women's rights in mathematics.
