Mary Gower completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Organic Chemistry at the University of Canterbury from 2001 to 2006. Principal supervisor Professor Andrew Abell guided her work in biological chemistry. Her PhD thesis was titled Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Inhibitors, involving the design, synthesis, and testing of enzyme inhibitors, with docking studies into targets such as dehydroquinase. During her PhD, she received a highly commended award for her poster presentation at the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry (NZIC) conference in 2002. She serves as a co-host for Te Niwha, contributing through the Research and Enterprise team.
