Marwa Chafii is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Engineering division at New York University Abu Dhabi since September 2021 and serves as Global Network Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. She earned her PhD degree in electrical engineering from CentraleSupélec, France, in 2016, and her Master's degree in advanced wireless communication systems from CentraleSupélec in 2013. Before joining NYU Abu Dhabi, she was an associate professor at ENSEA, France, in 2019, where she held a Chair of Excellence on Artificial Intelligence from CY Initiative. In 2018, she led a research group at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. From 2014 to 2016, she conducted visiting research at Poznan University of Technology in Poland, University of York in the UK, Yokohama National University in Japan, and University of Oxford in the UK.
Chafii's research focuses on wireless communications, integrated sensing and communication, waveform design, localization, machine learning for wireless communications, and 6G technologies. Her impact is demonstrated by her 2024 ranking among Stanford's Top 2% Scientists and multiple ESI Highly Cited Papers. Notable awards include the IEEE ComSoc Best Young Researcher Award for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, IEEE ComSoc Best Young Professional Practitioner Award, French Prix Glavieux 2024, Prize for the Best PhD in France in the fields of Signal, Image, and Vision, and selection among the top 10 Rising Stars in Computer Networking and Communications by N2Women in 2020. She is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications and was Associate Editor for IEEE Communications Letters from 2019 to 2021, earning the Best Editor Award in 2020. Chafii is Vice-Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Emerging Technical Committee on Machine Learning for Communications and leads the Education working group of the IEEE ComSoc Emerging Technical Committee on Integrated Sensing and Communications.
