Dr. Mario Baghos serves as Senior Lecturer in Theology within the School of Philosophy and Theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney Campus. He also delivers courses in Religious Studies. His academic credentials comprise a Bachelor of Theology with First Class Honours from the Sydney College of Divinity (SCD), PhD candidature in Studies in Religion at the University of Sydney (USyd), and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of New England (UNE). Throughout his career, Baghos has lectured and coordinated programs in theology, history, research methodology, and studies of religion at several institutions, including Charles Sturt University, the University of Sydney, the Sydney College of Divinity (now the Australian University College of Divinity), and Campion College Australia, where he holds an adjunct position.
Baghos's scholarly work centers on patristic and medieval eschatology, Byzantine art and architecture, and religious symbolism in contemporary popular culture. His research specializations include Patristics, Church History, Eschatology, and Byzantium. He is the author of the monograph From the Ancient Near East to Christian Byzantium: Kings, Symbols, and Cities (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2021). Additionally, he has co-edited Archbishop Stylianos - Pastor, Theologian, Poet (St Andrew's Orthodox Press, 2020) and Alexandrian Legacy: A Critical Appraisal (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2015). Prominent book chapters encompass "The End-Times Throughout History: The Problem of the Year 1000" in Eschatology at the Beginning of the Third Millennium (Pickwick Publications, 2025), "God’s Presence in History: The Work of Christ and the Spirit in St Gregory of Nazianzus’ Fifth Theological Oration and Oration 38 On the Nativity" (forthcoming in Pneumatology at the Beginning of the Third Millennium, 2024), and "Ecosystemic Agency: Christ, His Saints, and John Chrysostom" in John Chrysostom: Past, Present, Future (AIOCS Press, 2017).
