About Marina

Marina Agranov, Rea A. and Lela G. Axline Professor of Economics in the Business & Economics faculty at CalTech - California Institute of Technology, specializes in experimental economics. She holds a B.A. in Economics from St. Petersburg State Technical University (1999), an M.A. in Economics magna cum laude from Tel Aviv University (2003), and a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University (2010). Her career at Caltech began as Assistant Professor of Economics (2010-2017), followed by promotion to Full Professor (2017-2025), and her current endowed position since 2025. Agranov directs the Center for Theoretical and Experimental Social Sciences (CTESS) since 2021 and the Caltech Social Science Experimental Laboratory (SSEL) since 2017. She is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) since 2021 and Economic Theory Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory (SAET) since 2022.

Agranov's research examines strategic environments where agents interact, including bargaining, communication, social learning, networks, auctions, and information aggregation. Her interests encompass experimental and behavioral economics, political economy, and applied theory. Key publications include "Stochastic Choice and Preferences for Randomization" (with P. Ortoleva, Journal of Political Economy, 2017), "Ranges of Randomization" (with P. Ortoleva, Review of Economics and Statistics, 2023), "Bargaining in the Shadow of Uncertainty" (with H. Eraslan and C. Tergiman, AEJ: Microeconomics, 2024), "Trust Me: Communication and Competition in Psychological Games" (with U. Dasgupta and A. Schotter, Journal of the European Economic Association, 2025), and "Persistence of Power: Dynamic Multilateral Bargaining" (with C. Cotton and C. Tergiman, Journal of Public Economics, 2020). She received the Associated Students of Caltech (ASCIT) Teaching Award (2017-18) and has held editorial roles such as Associate Editor for Econometrica (2023-present) and Journal of the European Economic Association (2021-present). Her research has garnered NSF grants and recognition in the field.
