Margaret Poitevint serves as Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at the University of North Georgia, a position she has held since 2000. In parallel with her teaching duties, she has acted as Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) since 2008, ensuring institutional control over intercollegiate athletics and serving as Special Advisor to first-year and international student-athletes since 2013. Poitevint has contributed extensively to campus governance through service on multiple committees, including search committees, academic advisement committees, the first-year experience advisory committee, the athletics committee, the athletics admissions review committee, and the scholarship committee for the School of Health and Natural Sciences. Her dedication to student-athlete welfare and academic success is evident in her active involvement with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where she has promoted opportunities, scholarships, and community service initiatives such as the Habitat for Humanity Shanty Town event.
At the national level, Poitevint represented the University of North Georgia and Division II FARs on the NCAA Division II Academic Requirements Committee, where she chaired the Initial Eligibility Waivers Subcommittee. She participated in the Academic Requirements Task Force that developed the Path to Graduation legislation, served on the NCAA Student Records Review panel, and contributed to the Division II Membership Committee. Poitevint attended the NCAA Division II FAR Fellows Institute in 2009 and the Advanced Institute in 2013, and she facilitated the institute in 2010 and 2014. Following expert presentations on concussions, she crafted action plans to foster campus-wide discussions involving administrators, faculty, disability services, athletic trainers, coaches, and students. Her mentorship efforts earned her the Peach Belt Conference Faculty Mentor Award and the Golden Nighthawk Service Award from the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In her scholarly work, Poitevint co-authored the article "A Geometric Approach to Solving Rate Problems," published in Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School (Volume 16, Issue 5, December 2010/January 2011).
