Marc Grünig is affiliated with the TUM School of Life Sciences at the Technical University of Munich, specifically within the Ecosystem Dynamics and Forest Management group. His research focuses on biogeography, macroecology, and the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems, including forest fires, disturbances, and species responses across Europe.
Grünig has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications examining how increasing aridity and climate factors influence fire regimes, forest disturbances, and competitive dynamics among European conifer species. Key works include studies on the relationship between aridity and forest fire size and severity, as well as projections of future forest disturbances under various climate scenarios. He maintains affiliations with institutions such as the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
A new Science study warns climate change will more than double annual forest disturbances in Europe to 370,000 hectares by 2100 under high emissions, driven by wildfires and insects. Explore projections, impacts, and adaptation from TUM researchers.
