Dr. Madhavee Mahinkanda is a full-time Level B Lecturer and Course Coordinator in Construction Management at the School of Civil Engineering and Construction, College of Engineering and Information Technology, Adelaide University. She completed her PhD at the University of South Australia from 2020 to 2024, focusing on optimising design decisions to minimise construction waste. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantity Surveying from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, obtained between 2014 and 2018. Her career history includes serving as Lecturer (Level B) in Construction Management at the University of South Australia from 2023 to 2026, Academic Integrity Officer from 2024 onwards, Student Assessor and Tutor (casual) from 2021 to 2023, and Online Tutor (casual) from 2020 to 2023. Prior to these roles, she was a Lecturer in Quantity Surveying and Facilities Management at the University of Moratuwa from 2019 to 2020, and she has industry experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
Dr. Mahinkanda's research specializations include sustainable construction, waste management, and value management. Her key publications are "Optimizing design decisions for construction waste minimization through an interpretive structural modelling approach" (Built Environment Project and Asset Management, 2025), "Design decision-making for construction waste minimisation: a systematic literature review" (Buildings, 2023), "Quantity surveyors' adaptability to technology: the last frontier of job displacement challenge" (Built Environment Sri Lanka, 2024), and the conference paper "Design decisions towards minimizing construction waste in building projects—Reasons for the information gap: an interpretive structural modelling approach" (AUBEA 2023, published 2025). Additional contributions include "The theory-practice gap in value management: a case study in Sri Lankan construction industry" (IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019), "Bridging the theory-practice gap in value management in Sri Lankan construction industry" (World Construction Symposium, 2019), and "Suitability of traditional procurement system for green buildings in Sri Lanka" (World Construction Symposium, 2019). She received the Research Training Program (RTP) International Scholarship from the Australian Government in 2020. She teaches subjects such as Project Appraisal, Construction Planning and Safety, Construction Cost Planning, Building Estimating, and Building Services. She is also a Guest Editor for a special issue of Built Environment Project and Asset Management and a staff representative for the Builders Organisation for Students and Staff (BOSS).
