Lusheng Shao

Lusheng Shao is Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the Department of Management and Marketing, Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne. He obtained his PhD in Business with a focus on Operations and Analytics from the University of Sydney Business School. Professor Shao has advanced through the academic ranks at the University of Melbourne, previously serving as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in the same department. He has held visiting positions at leading institutions, including the University of California, Berkeley.

Professor Shao's research centers on supply chain management, sustainable operations, and business analytics, with particular emphasis on supply chain competition, contracting mechanisms, incentive design, and responsible sourcing. His scholarship is supported by multiple external and internal research grants and has been published in premier journals such as Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, and Decision Sciences. Key publications include 'Incentive Compatible in Dominant Strategies Mechanism Design for Assembly Systems' (Production and Operations Management, 2019), which earned him the Faculty of Business and Economics Deans' Prize for Exceptional Distinction in Research: Research Excellence (Level A-C) in 2020; 'Supplier Competition with Option Contracts for Discrete Blocks of Capacity' (Operations Research, 2017); 'Competition under Diseconomies of Scale: The Role of Subcontracting and Single-Sourcing Commitment by Retailers' (Decision Sciences, 2017); and 'Competitive Multiproduct Contracting under Multinomial Logit Demand' (Production and Operations Management, 2023). His work has accumulated over 920 citations on Google Scholar, underscoring his impact in the field of operations management. Professor Shao serves on the Editorial Review Board of Production and Operations Management and is affiliated with the Centre for Asian Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne. He contributes to teaching subjects such as Business Analysis and Decision Making and Supply Chain Analytics.
