Louie Centanni is a Lecturer in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies within San Diego State University’s College of Arts and Letters. He has held this position since 2014, the same year he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Fiction from San Diego State University. Prior to his graduate education, Centanni obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English from Trinity University in Texas. Before pursuing his MFA, he served in AmeriCorps, teaching middle school students from at-risk backgrounds, gaining early experience in education and working with diverse learners.
At San Diego State University, Centanni instructs courses in rhetoric and writing studies, such as RWS 100, an introductory rhetoric and writing course, and RWS 305W, Writing in Various Settings, which addresses rhetorical strategies in professional contexts including economics and healthcare communication. In addition to his primary role at SDSU, he works as an online writing consultant at the University of Arizona Global Campus Writing Center, providing support to students developing their writing skills across academic programs. Centanni is also a published author. His book, A Couple of Unorthodox Love Affairs, released in 2010, is a work of fiction characterized as darkly humorous and philosophical, challenging conventional ideas of normalcy through stories of unorthodox relationships. He has further published several short works and essays. Centanni was a college baseball player during his undergraduate years.
