Loretta Wicks is a faculty member in Psychology at Columbus State Community College. From Lorain, Ohio, she came to Columbus to attend graduate school at The Ohio State University, earning both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology. She also holds a B.S. in Psychology and Communication Studies from Oberlin College. Wicks commenced her professional career at Columbus State Community College in 1989, serving as an adjunct faculty member. Her early experience at the institution laid the foundation for her enduring commitment to teaching psychology at the community college level.
Subsequently, Loretta Wicks joined DeVry University as a faculty member, ultimately advancing to the role of Senior Professor in Psychology. During her tenure there, she gained a deeper understanding that teaching transcends traditional instruction, embodying a form of ministry dedicated to serving students and enabling them to achieve their full potential. In 2015, she returned to Columbus State Community College as an adjunct faculty member. She now serves in the capacity of CCP-ACF, which provides her the opportunity to teach in high school environments through the College Credit Plus program. The courses she teaches include Introduction to Psychology (PSY 1100) and Human Growth and Development (PSY 2340). In her first semester at the Dublin Emerald Campus, she was honored by her students as Teacher of the Month in November 2022. Beyond her classroom responsibilities, Wicks and her husband, Monty, facilitate the Marriage and Family Enrichment Ministry at their local church, further demonstrating her dedication to enrichment and development in both academic and personal spheres.
