Great Professor!
Dr Lisa Buckley serves as Honorary Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy from Queensland University of Technology. Buckley's research program focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of health behaviour change programs, emphasizing the translation of theory to evidence-based practice. Her primary efforts target the prevention of injuries among adolescents and young adults through addressing risk behaviours associated with alcohol use, violence, and road safety. Additionally, she investigates promotive factors for wellbeing, including supportive relationships with friends, parents, and schools, as well as the influence of bystanders on health behaviours.
In her career, Buckley has held the position of Co-Director of the Training and Education Core at the University of Michigan Injury Center, one of 11 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded injury centers. As chief investigator, she has secured funding exceeding 13 million dollars for research projects in Australia and the United States, including from the U.S. Department of Justice, an Australian Research Council Discovery Project, NHMRC Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grants, and the Motor Accident Insurance Commission. Her contributions to scholarship encompass over 85 peer-reviewed publications, 25 substantial reports for government and industry, and 14 training manuals or research products. Key publications include "Trajectories of parental warmth and the role they play in explaining adolescent prosocial behavior" (Buckley et al., Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 2023), "Spokespeople in public health: Important characteristics from the perspective of Australian public health professionals" (Buckley et al., Health Promotion Journal of Australia, 2023), "Digital mental health interventions: A narrative review of what is important from the perspective of LGBTQIA+ people" (Fowler et al., Journal of Clinical Psychology, 2023), and the highly cited "Psychosocial factors associated with intended use of automated vehicles: A simulated driving study" (2018). Buckley has presented her work at over 65 national and international conferences and delivered invited talks to government and industry organisations, enhancing the impact of her research in public health and injury prevention fields.
