Ling Liu, Ph.D., serves as Professor of Accounting and Department Chairperson in the Accounting and Finance Department within the College of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She joined the university in 2008 and has progressed through the academic ranks to her current position. Liu holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas, along with M.S. degrees in Accounting and Management Information Systems from the same institution. She earned her B.S. in Management Information Systems from Hohai University in Nanjing, China, and possesses the NASBITE Certified Global Business Practitioner (CGBP) certification. Her teaching focuses on financial accounting and managerial accounting, contributing to undergraduate and MBA programs in accounting.
Liu's research specializations encompass financial accounting, managerial accounting, CEO compensation and relative performance evaluation, the firm’s information environment and valuation, economic consequences and welfare impact of online markets, IT valuation, and big data. Her scholarly work has appeared in prominent journals, including highly cited publications such as "Do online reviews affect product sales? The role of reviewer characteristics and temporal effects" (Information Technology and Management, 2008), "Manipulation of online reviews: An analysis of ratings, readability, and sentiments" (Decision Support Systems, 2012), "The impact of IFRS on accounting quality in a regulated market: An empirical study of China" (Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, 2011), "Fraud detection in online consumer reviews" (Decision Support Systems, 2011), and "Managerial tenure and earnings management" (International Journal of Accounting & Information Management, 2015). In recognition of her excellence in teaching, research, and service, she was selected as a University Fellow for the 2024-25 academic year, a donor-supported award celebrating high-achieving faculty.
