Professor Lin Cui is Professor of Strategy and International Business at the Research School of Management in the College of Business and Economics at the Australian National University. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University. His academic interests center on the internationalization of emerging market firms, institutional perspectives of international business, entrepreneurship, and international strategy. Recent research examines the impacts of institutional environment, business networks, governance structures, firm resources, and strategic leadership on firm strategies and performance. His scholarship has been funded through major competitive research grants, including Australian Research Council schemes such as the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award.
Lin Cui has published extensively in top-tier journals, including Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and Journal of Operations Management. Highly cited works include "State ownership effect on firms’ FDI ownership decisions under institutional pressure: A study of Chinese outward-investing firms" (2017), "What drives firms’ intent to seek strategic assets by foreign direct investment? A study of emerging economy firms" (2014), "FDI entry mode choice of Chinese firms: A strategic behavior perspective" (2009), and more recent publications such as "Board Gender Diversity Reforms Around the World: The Impact on Corporate Innovation" (2025, Organization Science) and "Digital transformation and the offshore outsourcing behavior of manufacturing MNEs" (2025, Journal of International Business Studies). He serves as Associate Editor of Journal of Management Studies (2024-2027), Senior Editor of International Business Review (2021-2026), and editorial board member of Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, and Journal of World Business. Cui is a member of the ARC College of Experts (2022-2025) and received the 2022 College of Business and Economics Prize for Excellence in Research (Level E).
