About Lien

Lien Denoo is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, Tilburg University. Originally from Belgium, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Engineering in 2008, Master's Degree in Business Engineering: Operations Management in 2010, and PhD in Applied Economics from Ghent University in 2015. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the antecedents and performance implications of new ventures’ business model development processes in the mobile health industry. After completing her PhD, Denoo worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, from 2015 to 2017. She joined Tilburg University in the fall of 2017 as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of Management, obtained tenure in June 2022, and was promoted to Associate Professor thereafter.

Denoo's research interests encompass business model development and evolution in nascent industries, technology-market linking in technology ventures, and the impact of founder characteristics on new venture start-up and growth, with a particular emphasis on young high-tech ventures. Notable publications include "From strong ties to no ties: Configurations for first-customer acquisition in tech startups" with Pek-Hooi Soh and Bart Clarysse (Journal of Business Venturing, 2026), "Two hearts that beat as one: Signals, narratives, and financing (less) novel ventures via equity crowdfunding" with Jiahe Wang and Joris Knoben (Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, 2026), "Two Is a Pair, Three Is a Crowd: A Scoping Review of the Barriers and Facilitators to the Three Sides of XR-Rehabilitation Adoption" with Luuk Baltissen, Miranda Stienstra, and Joris Knoben (Journal of Medical Internet Research, 2026), and "Help, I need somebody! Business and technology advisors in emerging science-based ventures at American universities" with Anneleen Van Boxstael and Andrea Belz (Journal of Technology Transfer, 2024). She has received the Heizer Doctoral Dissertation Award in New Enterprise Development (2016), EBS Best Paper Award (2021), and Excellent Teacher awards (2021 and 2023). Denoo holds editorial positions at the Journal of Business Venturing and Long Range Planning, supervises PhD candidates, participates in Tilburg Young Academy, serves on committees such as the NWO Veni Assessment Committee, and teaches courses including Research Methods, Selected Topics in Strategy & Entrepreneurship, Qualitative Organizational Research Methods, and Corporate Entrepreneurship.
