Dr. Leong Kong Yong serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at Curtin University Malaysia, within the Faculty of Engineering and Science. He holds a Ph.D. and a B.Eng (Hons) in Civil Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), where his Ph.D. research concentrated on erosion and sediment yield control in the equatorial region. He joined Curtin University Malaysia in January 2020 after serving as a Senior Lecturer at the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) from March to December 2019. Additionally, he has been a part-time Environmental Consultant at AKAL Environmental Sdn. Bhd. since January 2013, specializing in environmental-related civil engineering design projects, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environment Management Plans (EMP), and Environmental Monitoring Reports (EMR). Earlier, he worked as a Research Assistant at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak from August to October 2012. Dr. Leong Kong Yong is professionally registered as an EIA Consultant with the Natural Resources and Environment Board, Sarawak (NREB, Reg. No: NREB/I/01090), a Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM, Reg. No: GE81590A), a Graduate Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM, Reg. No: G100790), and an ESG Professional Member.
His primary research interests lie in erosion and sediment yield control, as well as hydrology and water resources. Key publications include Ngieng, H.Y., Yong, L.K., & Strimari, S. (2021). A Study Case on Estimation of Soil Loss and Sediment Yield in Curtin University, Malaysia, published in Tropical Aquatic and Soil Pollution; Yong, L.K., Law, P.L., Taib, S.N.L., Ngu, J.O.K., Mah, D.Y.S., & Law, S.L.G.
