Lea Jones serves as Acting Director of Communications and Manager, Internal Communications and Channels in the Communications Office at the University of Otago. She is a former print journalist and journalism lecturer with more than 22 years of experience in the field. Lea joined the University of Otago in 2018, following seven years as lecturer and programme co-ordinator for the Diploma in Journalism at Otago Polytechnic. Prior to her lecturing role, she worked as a journalist, editor, sub-editor, and copy-writer at daily and weekly newspapers and radio stations.
In her leadership roles at the University of Otago, Lea oversees communications strategies, internal channels, and media engagement efforts. Her professional background supports the effective communication of university activities and research to internal and external audiences, as indicated by her designation as contact in various official media releases.
