Rate My Professor Lauren Lenello

Dr. Ienello's academic interests center on critical anesthetic cases, regional anesthesia, zoo and wildlife anesthesia and analgesia, and developing loco-regional techniques in underrepresented species. Notable publications include 'Ultrasound-guided rectus sheath block injections in miniature swine cadavers: technique description and distribution of two injectate volumes' (Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, 2022); 'Ultrasound-guided sciatic nerve block injections in barred owl (Strix varia) cadavers' (Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, 2024); 'Ultrasound-guided ventral approach to the brachial plexus block in red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) cadavers' (Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, 2024); 'Evaluation of preoperative rectus sheath block with bupivacaine for analgesia in cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy' (abstract, ACVS/ACVAA Annual Meeting, 2022); 'Doxapram May Improve Reliability of Oxygen Supplementation for Treatment of Hypoxemia in Immobilized Moose (Alces alces)' (Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2025); and 'Physiologic Outcomes after Thiafentanil and Xylazine Immobilization of Free-Ranging Moose (Alces alces)' (Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2025). Her research on rectus sheath blocks addressed a 10-fold increase in pig patients requiring anesthesia since 2016. Ienello earned the ACVAA Large Animal Resident Abstract Award (2021) and the University of Minnesota Veterinary Clinical Sciences Resident Award for Excellence in Clinical Training (2021). A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (DACVAA), she teaches veterinary students, interns, and residents.
