Dr. Kuppan Chetty Ramanathan is a Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur, India, with expertise in Mechatronics. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Robotics and Controls, from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in July 2010. His earlier qualifications include an M.Tech. from Vellore Institute of Technology in 2004, a B.E. from Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education in 2002, and a Diploma from Seshasayee Institute of Technology in 1999. Throughout his over two-decade career in academia and industry, he has held progressive roles. Currently, he serves as Professor of Mechanical Engineering at SASTRA Deemed University since 2024. From 2022 to 2023, he was Professor of Mechatronics at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, where he also led the Centre for Automation and Robotics and the Department of Mechatronics Engineering as Head.
His research focuses on intelligent robotics, assistive robotics, path planning and navigation, multi-robot coordination, heuristic approaches, and electrostatic actuators. Professor Ramanathan has produced over 105 publications, comprising 32 journal articles, 48 conference proceedings, 4 books, 7 book chapters, and 3 patents. Key publications include "Wearable Assistive Rehabilitation Robotic Devices—A Comprehensive Review" (Machines, 2024), "Head/Neck Mechanisms for Humanoid Robots—A Survey" (2023), "Modelling and Simulation of Autonomous Indoor Robotic Vacuum Cleaner" (IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2021), "Coordination Control of Wheeled Mobile Robots: A Hybrid Neuro-Fuzzy Decentralized Approach" (International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2011), and "Modeling and Simulation of Electrostatic Adhesion for Robotic Devices" (2012). His scholarly impact is evidenced by 464 citations and an h-index of 10 on Google Scholar. He received the National Doctoral Fellowship from AICTE-MHRD in 2006.
